Design choices that matter

Correct dimensions: less empty space means less material and lower freight volume.
Paper mono-materials are easier to sort and recycle.
Board or pulp inserts instead of foam where protection allows.
Paper tape or an adhesive strip instead of plastic tape.
A neutral box with a changeable sleeve reduces waste when campaigns change.

What complicates recycling

Lamination, foil, fabric-covered inserts and foam make material harder to recycle in the paper stream. Sometimes the trade-off is justified, for example when lamination reduces transport damage. We describe the trade-off rather than calling a solution environmentally friendly.

Certifications and documentation

Certifications covering forestry, recycled content or food contact are held by material manufacturers and suppliers. We can request and pass on such documentation for the chosen material, but we cannot attest to properties in our own name.

Regulations to consider

Packaging requirements evolve, including within the EU, and can cover material choice, recyclability and marking. We track which requirements affect the materials and structures we work with and raise them in the project, but legal assessment rests with you or your adviser.

Frequently asked questions

Can you develop plastic-free packaging?: Often yes, through paper-based materials, paper tape and board inserts. Protection level is verified in samples.
Is recycled board always better?: Not always. It can need higher grammage for the same strength, increasing material use. We weigh it case by case.
Can you certify that packaging is recyclable?: No. We pass on the material manufacturer's and supplier's documentation, which is the applicable source.
Which single choice has the greatest effect?: Nearly always reducing empty space. It lowers both material use and freight volume per product sold.
