Premium boxes
Rigid board wrapped in printed paper gives the heavy, precise feel associated with premium. We build the box around your product and specify material, finish and inserts before production starts.

When a rigid box is the right choice
Rigid boxes suit products where unboxing is part of the experience and the box is often kept: launches, gifting, electronics, beauty, spirits and limited editions. They cost more per unit than folding cartons and ship assembled, which increases freight volume. If you need flat delivery or very high volumes, a folding carton or sleeve is often more economical.
Structure, dimensions and fit
A rigid box is built from 1.5-3 mm greyboard wrapped in printed paper. Common variants are lid-and-base, magnetic lid, book-style and drawer. We measure your product and add tolerance for inserts and movement, usually 2-4 mm per side, so the lid seats evenly without binding. Internal size, external size and material thickness are always stated separately in the specification.
Paper, print and finish
- Wrapping paper in coated or uncoated quality, typically 120-170 gsm.
- Offset print for even solids, digital print for smaller runs.
- Soft-touch matt, gloss lamination, spot UV, gold or silver foil and embossing.
- Dark solids should be varnished or laminated, otherwise fingerprints and scuffing show.
Inserts and protection
Inserts can be produced in board, moulded pulp, foam or fabric-covered material depending on weight, shape and desired feel. Board and pulp are easier to recycle, foam gives the best shock absorption for heavy or fragile products. We test the fit in a physical mock-up before tooling is ordered.
How the project runs
- Brief and dimensions, digital mockup, physical sample, approved specification, production, quality control and delivery.
- MOQ is commonly around 250-300 units depending on the structure.
- Lead time is normally 6-8 weeks after confirmed design, depending on scope.
- Physical samples from approx. SEK 1,500. VyPack designs and coordinates; manufacturing takes place with selected suppliers.

We review board quality, thickness, fit, print technique and finishing with you and turn it into a specification a supplier can produce against.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- Can rigid boxes be delivered flat?
- Classic rigid boxes are delivered assembled. If you need flat delivery, collapsible magnetic boxes fold up on site, with a slightly less stiff feel.
- How thick should the board be?
- 1.5-2 mm is enough for light products; 2-3 mm gives clearer weight and stability for larger or heavier contents. We recommend a thickness based on weight and format.
- Can you match an exact brand colour?
- We work from a Pantone or CMYK reference and check against a proof. Small variations between materials and print techniques always occur and are approved at the sample stage.
- What do you need to get started?
- Product dimensions and weight, approximate volume, your logo in vector format and a reference or feeling. We develop the rest together.
