Tissue paper

Tissue paper is the cheapest detail that gets noticed most. It hides the contents a moment longer, dampens movement and gives the unboxing a sound.

Weight and format

  • 17-22 gsm is standard: thin enough to drape, strong enough to fold.
  • 28-30 gsm feels more substantial and handles more use.
  • Sheet size should cover the box diagonal with clear margin.
  • Acid-free paper is chosen for textiles and metals affected over time.

Printing on thin paper

Tissue is usually printed in one or two colours. Thin lines and small type break up in the pattern; larger, simpler shapes hold better. Print shows faintly through the sheet, which is normal. Full coverage in dark colour is avoided since the paper stiffens and ink can rub off.

Use in the unboxing

Most common is a sheet folded over the product and closed with a sticker. That creates a clear second opening after the lid. In e-commerce, tissue also works as light protection against scuffing, but it does not replace inserts or void fill where impact is a risk.

Good to know

  • MOQ is often higher than for boxes since print cylinders are used per colour.
  • Lead time normally 6-8 weeks after confirmed design.
  • One pattern can serve several box formats and lowers cost.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many colours should the pattern have?
One or two is nearly always enough. More colours add cost and registration risk on thin paper.
Can tissue paper be recycled?
Untreated tissue goes into paper recycling. Detailed requirements follow the material documentation.
Which sheet size do I need?
We calculate it from the box internal dimensions so the sheet folds over the product without bulking up.
Can tissue be combined with a sticker?
Yes, and it is the most common combination. The sticker can be printed in the same series.
